I learned that mutations are good and bad. The most interesting mutation I've learned about was the two headed snake because it's interesting to see how they survive, and the way they look. I did like sketchnoting because it's a faster and easier way to take notes. Something I would do different is write smaller, and keep everything separated.

First 8th grade blog
My name is Yahaira Morales, I'm 13 years old I like playing basketball and soccer. My favorite thing about 8th grade is that I have a lot of classes with my friends. I think that in biology I'm doing great this year because I have gotten good grades and feel good when ever we take assessment.

Literacy History
I first learned the letters in the alphabet when I was in Kindergarten. Mrs. Sorensen read to us a book every day about 1 letter but we learned a different letter every 2-3 days. I enjoyed when somebody read to me because I kind of pay more attention when somebody reads to me. I just feel like its more interesting hearing it from somebody. The first book I ever read was about a little cat who tried learning the letters in the alphabet and he learned one very day like us. I did like reading on my own. I like reading on my own but I enjoy the book when somebody reads to me or I just hear it. When I first learned how to write my name I was in Kindergarten. Mrs. Sorensen gave us a paper with lines and we had to write our name like 5 times a day so that we remember how it is written. It made me feel happy because it was the first time that I was able to write my name and it actually looked kind of sloppy because my handwriting was really sloppy but I still enjoyed it.
I really liked learning how to read and write because I knew that in the future you would need how to learn how to read and write for everything so I needed to know how to read and write. When I first went to school I was really happy because I felt like I was really big, and if people would treat me like an adult for going to school. I was excited to meet new people and make new friends. When I found out that my mom wasn't going to be able to stay with me, I started to cry because I didn't want her to leave. I told her that I didn't want to go to school and I wanted to stay home with her, but it didn't work. I ended up going to school, learning how to read and write, meeting new people, making friends. getting good grades, and enjoying the fact that I have the opportunity to come to school.

Night-john Illiterate
My life would be very different if I were to be treated as a slave without being able to learn how to read or write. I wouldn't be able to do anything of my life. I would be bored all day if I weren't to be tired from all the work I would have needed to do. I would need to go out with someone to get food and to buy clothes because I didn't know how much money it would cost or how to read the menu. My life would be a total mess I wouldn't have any friends at all because I wouldn't be able to go to school so I wouldn't meet any people that I can socialize with. I wouldn't even be able to talk to anybody because I wouldn't know anybody. I wouldn't have a good job because I wouldn't know how to write, so that means I wouldn't get any money which would lead to me not having any money to buy anything for myself. I would be dependent on somebody because my life would be a complete mess.

Summary
Jackie Robinson was an African American baseball player who went through discrimination. Jackie Robinson became a professional black baseball player who made the Brooklyn Dodgers because of Branch Rickey. Branch Rickey noticed that he wanted to change racism since there was a lot of discrimination against black players but even Charley Thomas who was one of the baseball players; he wasn't able to sleep in a hotel because of the color of his skin. Branch Rickey then took some notes on how the special baseball player should be; he included that the person needed to have the guts to take all the insults but not do anything about it. This was the Noble Experiment. Branch Rickey then went on a look out for this special person, until he found it and it was Jackie Robinson. Branch Rickey asked Jackie Robinson if he would like to be in the Brooklyn Dodgers but before that he told him a little lie. Rickey talked to Jackie about the requirements of being in the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie agreed but Branch Rickey wanted to make sure, so he tested Rickey by talking bad about his family and his skin color. Branch Rickey realized that Jackie did have the guts to stay calm when he was discriminated by whites.

Theme
The book I listened to was Thank You, Mr. Falker. The conflict of Thank You, Mr. Falker is that Trisha wasn't able to read. The more she tried to read the less she was able too. Trisha reacted to her conflict very badly. She thought of herself as being a really dumb person and that only made it worse because she didn't believe in herself and so that made it even worse. The theme of the story was that you should always believe in yourself so that you have the positivity to be able to do what ever you wanted to do.

Paper Reflection
Reflection
While I was doing my research paper something that I struggled doing was paraphrasing the notes. I also struggled with adding transition words. Something I found easy was putting my notes into complete sentences. Another thing I found easy was making my sentences make sense and that there weren't any run-on sentences. Something I want to improve in my paper is find better websites for my notes.

Paraphrasing
Step 1: Notes
Main Idea: People wanted the "Shamu" show to end the orca's show.
- Prefer seeing killer whales act naturally rather than doing tricks

- New show = whale's natural environment, and behavior in wild
Step 2: Paraphrase Paragraph
Many people decided that they would rather watch whales act naturally than doing tricks. Therefore SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. made public that the whale shows were going to end. Many people wanted a new show about the whales natural environment and the behavior they had in the wild. In 2017 there will be a different kind of orca shows.
Step 1: Notes
- Adam Schiff introduced a law to end breeding orcas in captivity
- This is a good first step however it doesn't go far enough.
- Adam Schiff said that as long as SeaWorld holds orcas in captivity, the problems caused by trapping the whales will continue.
- Whales in aquariums = stress, broken teeth.
Step 2: Paraphrase Paragraph

Adam explained that as long as SeaWorld holds orcas in confinement, the conflicts caused by trapping the whales will continue. Also, whales in aquarium result of stress, and broken teeth.
