Author's Point of View and Purpose

Tittle: Opinion: We didn't care about attack in Kenya until tragedy hit Paris

1) What it the author's point of view?

The author's point of view is that people didn't really care about Kenya until Paris was almost destroyed. The first evidence is, " The attack in Kenya was just as terrible as what happened in Paris. Fighters killed students and others at Kenya's Garissa University College. Yet back in April there was almost nothing about it on Facebook or Twitter." The second evidence is, "In face, the old article was the first time many people had heard about the Kenya attack."There was no outpouring of sadness and support, as there was for Paris."

2) Do you agree or disagree with the author's point of view? Why?

I agree with the article because I don't think its fair for the people from Kenya because as much as we want to support France we also need to support Kenya even though it is less likely for us to go to Kenya than to France. But I still think that they need support to get through what they are going through.

3) What is the author's purpose?

The author's purpose is to inform the reader about how Americans help/support France more than Kenya. The evidence is that "It is perhaps only natural that most Americans were more upset by the attack in Paris. Many Americans know Paris in a way they do not know Kenya and Beirnut."
